Tessellations

MC Escher Fish Pattern

There are three different types of tessellations:

  • Regular
  • Semi-regular
  • Irregular

There are three ways to make regular tessellations:

  • Translation
  • Rotation
  • Reflection

Tessellation Slideshow

Translation is the simplest and easiest tessellating design to make. The congruent shape is slid in both horizontal and vertical directions inside the grid. The finished repeated design fits together without gaps or overlaps.

Rotation is a tessellating design where the congruent shape repeats around a central point. The finished design is repeated in a circular pattern inside the grid.

Reflection is a tessellating design where the congruent shape is repeated in a different method from a translation. The shape is repeated by sliding and flipping in both a horizontal and vertical directions inside the grid. The finished design fits together without gaps or overlaps.

Third Eye – Pineal Gland

The pineal gland was the last endocrine gland to have its function discovered. Its location deep in the brain seemed to indicate its importance. This combination led to its being a “mystery” gland with myth, superstition and even metaphysical theories surrounding its perceived function.

Structure of the Earth

The interior of the Earth, similar to the other terrestrial planets, is chemically divided into 3 layers.

  1. The Crust. The Earth has an outer silicate solid crust.
  2. The Mantle. The Earth has a highly viscous mantle.
  3. The Core. The Earth has a liquid outer core that is much less viscous than the mantle, and a solid inner core.
